Discussion:

During the meeting we discussed the following items:
  • We are adding a new project headed by Chance to develop a 10 acre tract of land in Northern Central SC growing both plants and goats using Permaculture techniques. Tenders members will be providing assistance as available. The project will begin in September and Chance is relocating to the area to head up the project.
  • The Treehouse project is progressing with a large portion of the efforts going toward the Treehouse TV project. We felt this is a worthy project as it will both further the Treehouse project and help others by sharing green projects that can be done at their homes. Filming will continue this weekend. Additionally, progress toward earning the extra land has made significant steps toward completion. Scott hopes to hold a Grand Opening event in October to celebrate to completion of that phase of the project.
  • Forevermore Gardens continues to progress with the storage area nearly complete and the garden progress continuing to move forward.
  • We decided to continue to keep the majority of the focus on these 3 projects but also agreed to consider small local projects in the meantime. This would be projects that could typically be completed in a day or two. One proposed example would be to investigate the idea of adding a small garden to the area around "Our Daily Bread" in Seneca for the use of the kitchens there and tended by their patrons.
  • Scott will attempt to set up a meeting with Seneca Mayor Dan Alexander to form a connection with Him and the city of Seneca and get to know him better. Robert will attend the meeting with him.
  • The group also continued the former discussion about finding a location to create a remote Tenders site that could be staffed in a time share type manner with a sustainable home, gardens, and lifestyle. Investigations will begin into finding such a location by researching countries.
  • Finally we discussed beginning the process of becoming a charitable non-profit organization. We are in agreement to continue in this direction.

This is just a place holder for previously discussed ideas. These are not approved or finalized, just ideas in raw format.

  • Build a designed community with an interior area that requires walking from building to building (no cars). Each building would be basically a 2 story design with a home over shop design. Use fun and appealing architecture such as that found at the renfaires. Include various areas such as a tiny house village. Have rental properties and guest homes. Community garden. Community eating plan. Community events. Weekend shopping in the village open to the public.
  • Goal - Assist communities to be more resilient and less dependent by clearing barriers.
  • Must be in tune with client's needs
  • Begin events with an assessment of needs and desires
  • Value - Be sure that people know we are trying to help them and not looking down on them.
  • Create a setting where the recipients own the solution and are able to maintain or enhance their self-esteem
  • "As King" = Asking the right questions as opposed to telling
  • Focus first on Local permaculture activities (Treehouse & Forevermore)
  • "Sharing Sessions" - good verbiage
  • Potential sharing session topics include - Want/Ego out of control, instant satisfaction, credit cards, debt slaves, how things really work such as money, owning less = freedom, focus on the positive, emotional connections to material items
  • Lead using a "Core Team" + Roles matrix
  • Value – Must actually involve tending the earth
  • Detail – “How we tend the earth” to include individual areas such as Planting, Energy Efficiency, Education, etc…)
  • Elements – Story, Values, Vision, Strategy, Initiatives, Goals, Customer Values, Branding, Who, Roles, Structure, Offerings, Pathway, Skills, Resources, PR
  • Do things we each enjoy
  • Scott likes - Creating useful things – Planter boxes, etc..
  • Chance likes – Growing things both animals and plants, Designing growing structures, Be around People and Plants (Living things), designing eco systems, health, prefers doing

Discussion:

Scott reviewed his compiled notes and also discussed the results of the trip to Central America. This included items such as Values, Purpose, Vision, Leadership and Organization. We discussed potential founding members and a desire to avoid a bureaucratic hierarchy.
Scott shared his thoughts on an initial Vision Statement: "To help individuals and communities become self-sufficient" The goal would be to maximize positive impact. This would preferably be a non-profit organization that serves the recipients through activities such as workshops, seminars, information, and onsite support.
One area of development would be that of skills. Whether through learning or finding the right team members skills such as sustainable building, permaculture, metal working, medicinal plants, etc... would be critical in the success of the group.

Actions:

  • Scott - Provide information on local community resources
  • Robert - Set up a website and Tiki Wiki for the team use
  • Robert - Research what is needed to start a non=profit
  • Scott - Set up the next meeting
